Racquel Samuel, LCSW — Senior Therapist
-
Meet Racquel.
Racquel Samuel, LCSW (she/her), is a licensed clinical social worker with experience working with individuals navigating anxiety, perfectionism, shame rooted in past experiences, and early relational trauma. Racquel’s goal is to co-create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where people feel seen, respected, and understood. She integrates different therapeutic approaches (e.g., Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems), mindfulness, and body-based practices to support people in building more compassionate and authentic ways of relating to themselves and others.
The daughter of Caribbean immigrants, Racquel was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Her lived experiences shape her belief that we all carry wisdom within our cultures, family histories, and personal narratives. These resources can be useful in the therapeutic journey. She encourages people to consider the cultural, historical, and relational contexts that shape their lives.
Outside of her clinical work, Racquel is a PhD student and researcher studying the biology of stress and its relationship to the experiences of immigrants across generations. She is particularly interested in the experiences of families separated by migration, especially mothers mothering from afar. In another life, Racquel worked as a Community Schools Director for NYC's Community Schools and as an academic advisor for a NYS-funded educational opportunity program supporting low-income, first-generation college students. She has also worked as a staff therapist at The New School, where she primarily served students of the global majority, LGBTQ+ students, and international students.
Those working with Racquel can expect a thoughtful balance of reflection, practical tools, and culturally responsive, trauma-informed care to support growth, healing, and change.
